Lookng for Jimmy Hoffa

Would someone please explain to me why our financially (and morally) bankrupt federal government is spending money looking for Jimmy Hoffa, a convicted felon and union-mobster chief, who disappeared over 31 years ago. Why are we spending money on such a fool's hunt? I've heard of cold cases, but this is ridiculous.
