A View From America-The Royal Wedding

Dear editor:

Well, it’s finally over. The wedding of the century has occurred and all the secrets and surprises are out in the open. We all now know what Kate Middleton’s dress looks like. (Excuse me, the Duchess) Of course the venue for their honeymoon is still a state secret.

The TV networks around the world have had a field day with this Royal event, but don’t worry, with the 24 hour news cycle they will keep us informed and bored for at least another two or three weeks. Maybe we should even send Donald Trump over the Atlantic to check out the marriage certificate to make sure Kate and William are truly married. He would insist on seeing the “long form” rather than the public “short form.”

One thing that boggles the mind about this happy joining is that the British taxpayer is picking up “their share” of the tab to the extent of 22 million British Pounds. In American money that is roughly 33 million American Dollars. With the world wide recession and money being so tight it is a shame that the richest woman in the world should stick her loyal subjects with part of the bill for her grandson’s wedding.

As you can see, I am not a big fan of the Royal Family and all its boring excesses. But then again, I feel I am in good company. Our Founding Fathers didn’t think too much of them either.
