The Stupidity of Broccoli

I know I'm going to open Pandora's box with this, but: while I have no objections to people's feelings one way or the other about the healthcare law (for or against) there is one question I'm getting sick of hearing......."What is the Federal Government going to make us buy next? Broccoli?"

This is an old, old statement.

Remember the deduction from your paycheck the government "forced on you" for a retirement fund?  You know, it's called Social Security, which is the last resort for people's old age and has been around since the Depression.  No one has mentioned broccoli. And no one wants to give up that "tax"

Remember the deduction from your paycheck the government "forced on you" for a retirement health care fund?  You know, it's called Medicare, which is what is keeping so many seniors alive.  No one has mentioned broccoli.  And no one wants to give up that "tax."

Come on now. Whether you are a Republican or Democrat, like or dislike the law, this is nothing new and is a part of our country.  AND IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH BROCCOLI.  So let's talk about it in a civilized way and forget the vegetables.
