The Royal Family

Dear editor: 

 The Founders of our country planned to have a republic that had a Head of State (President) and not a royal family.  But it seems the current occupant of the White House seems to think and act as if he and his family should live like royalty.  Where is our Congress, both House and Senate, when we need them the most to demand a change back to a First Family and not a royal one?  When will they, Democrats and Republicans, act to stop, via legislation and overriding a veto, problems like the following:

The administration will no longer make public visitor logs to the White House for “privacy and security concerns.”  Will someone tell #45 that he is just a “temporary” occupant of the PEOPLE’S HOUSE and it is not his private domain to be kept in secret.

The Trump family is becoming the most expensive first family in history. His trips to his Florida resort, Mar-A-Lago in the first 100 days of his term is close to doubling the $12.1 million annual travel costs of the Obama Administration.  IN LESS THAN 100 DAYS. And getting him there isn’t the only cost per trip.

Per trip costs: Security in Palm Beach: $3.7 million; roundtrip flights: $700,000; overtime local law enforcement: $60,000 per day; Total golf cart rentals for Secret Service $35,185; Loss to local business due to airport closure: $30,000 per weekend. 

Let us not forget about keeping the First Lady and son in Trump Towers. Secret Service $60,000; NY City PD $127,000-$146,000 per day; “Elevator services” ordered by Secret Service $64,000; Air Force One Flights to NYC $180,000 per hour. Separate Air Force plane to carry First Lady and son to Florida when POTUS is there $15,846 per hour.

And Trump children’s trips on personal business around the world with Secret Service: Eric Trump hotel costs in Uruguay $97,830; Eric Trump hotel costs in UK $11,261; Eric Trump limousine services in Dublin $4,029; Rental ski equipment and clothing for Secret Service during Ivanka Trump’s trip to Aspen, CO $12,208; Donald Jr., Eric and Tiffany Trump hotel costs in Vancouver $53,155.

All these costs are for Secret Service only and don’t include airfare for same on trips with family.

And don’t forget we still pay for the upkeep of Camp David.

And who makes the profit on the costs for the Secret Service at Mar-A-Lago and Trump Towers?  Why, the Trumps of course.
